The name of my blog comes from one of my favorite daily devotionals, Deep Fire: Daily Challenges for a Burning Heart, compiled by Harold Vaughan. “Magnificent Obsession” is the title of the May 2nd entry, which completely resonates with me. Since I was born again in 2011, I have hungered and thirsted after God, and I pray the fire never goes out. Sometimes it dims a little when the busyness of life overwhelms and consumes, so I must make every effort to get back into the Word of God, to pray continually, to seek His face.
Here are some excerpts from the devotional for that day:
“Every Christian will become at least what his desires have made him. We are all the sum total of our hungers. The great saints have all had thirsting hearts. Their cry has been, ‘My soul thirsteth for God, for the living God.’ Their longing after God all but consumed them. It propelled them onward and upward to heights toward which less ardent believers look with and entertain no hope of reaching.” – G. Goodman
“I long for God ten thousand times more than anything else here below.” – David Brainerd
“The man that has the most of God is the man who is seeking the most ardently for more of God.” – A. W. Tozer
What about you? Do you have an obsession with the magnificent One?
